Social Investment
Strategy Development

The most effective social investment takes place when it is guided by a well researched and focused strategy.Tshikululu designs social investment strategies – both for grantmakers and impact investors – in several sectors, including education, health, livelihoods, the environment, creative arts and community strengthening and care. Every strategy is customised to meet our clients’ social investment goals and grounded in sound research and expertise.

Monitoring and
Evaluation (M&E)

Understanding the actual impact of a social investment strategy is critical to success. Tshikululu provides comprehensive M&E and Impact Measurement and Management services to clients. This includes designing M&E frameworks, identifying the best quantitative and qualitative measurement approaches, and completing process, outcome and impact evaluations.

Community assessments and stakeholder engagement are critical when designing community-based social investment programmes. A “one size fits all” approach does not work, as communities differ vastly in terms of their needs, desires and social dynamics. Community assessments provide an opportunity to collect baseline data that can be used to lay the foundation for a sound strategy, and monitor changes/improvements during programme implementation. Tshikululu conducts community assessments consisting of primary and secondary research to help social investors understand how best to support the communities where they operate.

Identifying and vetting reputable organisations to fund, which have the requisite track record and experience, is a challenge for many social investors. Tshikululu assists clients who manage their own foundations/trusts internally by providing due diligence services to assess the governance, capacity and quality of potential partner organisations. In addition to deep experience about what makes a great social impact organisation, our governance team has extensive experience in conducting in-depth governance and financial controls testing on organisations, which also provide clear improvement recommendations as appropriate.

Tshikululu provides a range of services to impact investors, who aim to generate both financial and social/environmental impact returns. These services include development of impact investing strategy, identifying and assessing high-impact social enterprises, providing Impact Measurement and Management support and conducting in-depth research on themes and impact areas that are key to strategy.
